Packaging company ALPLA has expanded its production activities by opening its second plant for high-quality beverage packaging in Angola.

Located in Viana, the new 4,000m² site was built separately and will produce PET preforms for the Angolan beverage industry.

According to the firm, the addition of 15 more workers brings the total to 45.

The two facilities’ combined manufacturing space is 5,500m², includes seven machines, and features technologies like IM-PET (injection moulding for preforms) and CM-CAPS (compression moulding for closures).

ALPLA Sub-Saharan Africa managing director Mike Resnicek said: “Angola has enormous potential. We have continuously expanded our capacity and our headcount since entering the country.

“The market for plastic packaging is developing very dynamically, and we are at the forefront and aiming for further growth.”

The building of the new factory in Angola aligns with the firm’s growth strategy for that region of the continent.

The new plant will enable ALPLA to offer its local clients advanced solutions, global expertise and enhanced capacity and flexibility in day-to-day operations.

The firm said that the output will also be expanded to include additional product categories.

It may produce closures using injection moulding (IM-CAPS), injection stretch blow moulding (ISBM), or stretch blow moulding (SBM) techniques for making bottles in the future.

ALPLA Middle East and Turkey Africa regional managing director Javier Delgado said: “The opening of the 2nd production facility in Angola shows our commitment to further grow and invest in the African continent.

“This is yet another milestone of the journey we started in 2014 in South Africa and continued in 2016 in Egypt. The footprint will hopefully continue with new plants in Northern and Eastern Africa with a strong focus on Western Africa too.”

The company’s first in-house production plant for high-quality beverage packaging is situated in the Luanda suburb of Viana since 2018. It supplies bottles to bottler Refriango.
