Glass packaging provider Allied Glass has designed a new blue glass bottle for Smeaton’s Bristol Method Dry Gin.

An original handwritten recipe for 1870’s Bristol Method Dry Gin was recreated, bottled and introduced as Smeaton’s.

Denomination has designed the identity and packaging for Smeaton’s, while Allied Glass manufactured the glass bottle for the product.

The packaging is said narrate the story behind the gin and communicate the authenticity and heritage of the product.

The creative concept remains genuine to the recipe, which was discovered by the founders in the Bristol Archives on Smeaton Road, which was named after the road.

According to Allied Glass, the blue glass is synonymous with Bristol and handwritten recipe inspired the typography and botanical illustration demonstrates the arts and crafts movement of the late 19th century.

The long neck of the bottle was surrounded by a unique paper wrap that features bespoke print, enabling to provide advanced look for the bottle.

Denomination managing director Rowena Curlewis said: “The gin market in the UK is booming, with start-ups competing with craft and well-established gin brands. Therefore, it was crucial for the packaging design to be memorable and reflect the premium nature of Smeaton’s.”

Smeaton’s co-founder Will Betts said: “We are delighted by the design created by Denomination, which perfectly reflects the story behind Smeaton’s and its Bristol heritage. Allied Glass then worked

“Allied Glass then worked tirelessly to achieve the colour finish and screen print quality required to realise our vision.”

In February 2018, Allied Glass designed a brand new bottle for Scottish gin Caorunn.

The new bottle is said to represent five natural Scottish botanicals that surround the Speyside distillery.

Allied Glass has developed new pentagonal shape and five-pointed asterisk base for the bottle, in a bid offer added presence to the gin.
