An injection-moulded closure claimed to be the world’s first purpose-designed plastic cap for vinegars, olive oils and dressings is now available from Vetreria Etrusca, UK sales arm of Italian glass packaging manufacturer Vetreria Etrusca SRL.

Commissioned by Australian food and packaging importer Boncorp International, and available exclusively in Europe from Penrith-based Vetreria Etrusca, the Olea Cap allows simple, fast capping, either on high speed automatic lines or manually by smaller companies without such equipment. The LDPE food grade pourer plug and PP or HDPE tamper-evident cap can be fitted in a single operation.

Available in 31.5mm and 28mm diameter versions, the closure is supplied in black, gold and olive green but can be moulded in any Pantone colour and embossed. Its all-plastic construction means it will run happily through metal detectors.

Vetreria Etrusca’s Elizabeth Forbes adds: “To date no other company we know of has designed a viable plastic alternative to metal ROPP closures for premium oils, vinegars and the like packaged in glass bottles.”
