UK-based packaging firm 4 Aces has introduced new biodegradable paper straws as part of its plan to support circular economy.

Designed to enable customers to adopt a more environmentally-friendly approach, the new sustainable straws offer an alternative solution to the paper straws currently available on the market, to the end-user.
4 Aces said in a statement: “With the media continuing to focus on the over-use of plastic, and the consequences to the environment as a result, consumers are far more savvy about the unnecessary use of straws and are increasingly unwilling to contribute to the damage that’s being caused, to sealife in particular.”
Intended to maintain a stable structure and last much longer than other alternatives, the new biodegradable straws are made using high grade material.
The firm’s white paper straws are made available in 8mm bore. They are suitable for smoothies and shakes.
4 Aces, which foresees continued growth for environmentally friendly packaging, said it has also developed a black 6mm version to suit all other uses.
4 Aces sales director David Blake said: “With smaller children and anyone likely to struggle, going without a straw isn’t always an option. This eco-friendly alternative to the plastic straw gives consumers the opportunity to make the right choice and it impacts positively on the sustainability agenda of the seller, whether that’s a pub, a café or any other retail outlet.
“We’re expecting to generate a healthy level of interest as we are enjoying high sales across all of our biodegradable products following the launch of our PLANET range earlier this year.”
4 Aces offers a selection of 7oz, 8oz, 12oz and 16oz, compostable, PLA hot cups and a full range of paper water cones and PLA cold cups.
The firm provides packaging products which comply with the European Union (EU) certification for compostable packaging, to customers in the beverage and foodservice sectors.
4 Aces has received accreditation from BRC Global Standards for best practice in the handling, storage and distribution of its cups and water products.
