Colorscan Imaging Products Ltd has taken a significant step forward with expansion within the labels market after investing in a Tau 330 RSC E UV inkjet single-pass press and software from Durst, manufacturer of advanced digital printing and production technologies.

Installed in early August this year, Keith Forster, Owner and Managing Director of family-owned Colorscan, said: “Our business mainly provides printed products to the brewing industry. Obviously our business took a hit during lockdown, but our label printing business actually increased during this period. We have bought the machine at the right time. We certainly see a huge scope for expansion in the labels side of our business.

“We were always planning to upgrade our machines before the coronavirus pandemic because technology moves on. We did due diligence with seven suppliers involving substantial amounts of research and testing. Durst came out unequivocally as the best production printer with both high productivity and excellent print quality (1200x1200dpi highest resolution).

“There is nothing comparable in terms of quality and reliability. The Durst Tau 330 RSC E replaces two machines and dramatically increases our capacity running significantly faster than the two machines it replaces. This means our operating costs have been reduced significantly plus the machine also allows considerable ink consumption savings per linear metre. It’s also important to have the right workflow – and that was another reason to choose Durst.”

Based in 40,000 sq ft premises in Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire, Colorscan has been a manufacturer and supplier to the brewery trade for over 25 years. It provides pump clips, keg badges and lenses, pump clip fixings as well as allergen advice and safety information on labels and tags for food packaging and wine / beer bottles. Speciality sectors within labels include metallic, clear, gloss, matt and PET liners.

Peter Bray, Managing Director of Durst UK & Ireland, said: “Affordable digital label printing is now a reality for Colorscan with its investment in the Durst Tau 330 RSC E technology. It joins many other companies that benefit from a total package in terms of high quality, the best possible service and resulting production reliability, as well as important cost-savings. We’re delighted that this will help them take a big step forward in labels.”
