HeatGenie has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with EnCanSol Capital to become the first licensed manufacturer of the HeatGenie self-heating technology.

Self-heating component HeatGenie integrates into the bottom of packaging and heats a 10oz portion of coffee, hot chocolate or soup to 145° F in two minutes, with the simple push of a button.

HeatGenie business development vice president Rosemary Whaling said a number of multi-national food and beverage companies are evaluating the new technology.

"EnCanSol is experienced in producing portable energy products in a cost effective manner and, once capital is in place, has the capacity to begin production in 2013," Whaling said.

HeatGenie in the US will work with Crown, its packaging development partner to introduce the technology to consumers in 2013, with the addition of a manufacturing partner.
